How to Become a Coach

Step 1: Register as a volunteer in the National AYSO database through http://ayso120.org. “Register Now” as a Volunteer. Print a copy of your completed volunteer form, bring it with you and a photo id to your next training session.

Step 2: Register through AYSOU.org and complete the online Safe Haven class (30-45 minutes). To complete the training, go to http://aysou.org. Login with your AYSO Blue Sombrero Log in and password.  Under the “Online Courses” tab select the “AYSO's Safe Haven Course” and select “Launch”.

Step 3: Complete the online CDC Concussion class (30-45 minutes). To complete the training, go to http://aysou.org. Login with your AYSO Blue Sombrero login and password.   Under the “Online Courses” tab select the “CDC: Concussion Course” and  select “Launch” for the “Heads Up” course.

Step 4: Complete the appropriate Coach training. To complete the training, go to http://aysou.org . Login with your AYSO Blue Sombrero Log in and password. Under the “Online Courses” tab select the level of training for your division. 

Step 6: Lastly, our coach instructors will set up a brief on field training to help you get started.

How to Create an Account and Register as a Volunteer

1.Click on “Register Now” in the top right hand corner of the site.

2. Complete the “Create New Account” section on the Login screen. Then click “Create Account.”

Selectoption 2,if you want to skip registering a participant and only sign-up to volunteer.

Look for the age group and the volunteer position you are interested in thenclick on

It will now saythen click onat the bottom of the screen.

NOTE: DO NOT SELECT MORE THAN ONE VOLUNTEER POSITION AT THIS TIME. Additional volunteer roles can be added after registration is complete.

7. Select the name of the volunteer and click “Continue.”

Fill in all the fields with a red asterisk.

Make sure to accept the waiver at the bottom of the pagethen click on

9.Volunteer E-Signature

Select thebutton, then

10.Review Application and E-Sign

a)Click on the box next to the words “I agree to use an electronic signature.”
b)Click on the radio button next to the words “I am an adult of the age of majority in my state…”
c)Type your name in the yellow box for “Volunteer Signature.”
d)Click on “Continue to Review.”

On the last screen, if all the information on the volunteer form is correct, thenclick onat the bottom of the application.

12.Complete Sterling Volunteer Application

NOW new for 2019:AYSO has increased the level of their background checks, which now has to be finished by a 3rd Party System:
Sterling Volunteers (aka: Verified Volunteers). Same company as before, but now you will receivean email from them to set up an
outside account with them and complete your background check process. It is an extra step, but it is quick and should be about
5 to 7 minutes. If you DO NOT see their email in your inbox, please check your spam/junk folder. ALSO, when signing up with Sterling,
please use the same email address you did with Blue Sombrero (also, the same email Sterling sent the email too.)


Safe haven- How to take a class

AYSO's Safe Haven

AYSO's Safe Haven was developed to protect both children and volunteers. The program covers protection guidelines, safety and injury prevention as well as the important of role modeling sporting behavior and supporting the philosophies of AYSO.

CDC Concussion Course- How to take the class

CDC: Concussion Course

By taking this free, online course and using what you learn, you will be well positioned to improve the culture of concussion. Your actions can help create a safe environment for young athletes so that they can stay healthy, active, and thrive - both on and off the playing field.

Upon completion of this training, you can print out a certificate, making it easy to show your league or school you are ready for the season.

4)Click the "Open" button next to "CDC: Concussion Course".
